Is your community shed DGR endorsed?

Community sheds, including men’s sheds and women’s sheds, can now apply to be a deductible gift recipient (DGR). DGR endorsement means that donations of $2 or more made to your shed will generally be tax deductible.

There are a number of requirements your shed needs to meet to be eligible to apply for DGR endorsement. The ATO Community sheds webpage has more details about these.

Your community shed needs to:

  • have the characteristics of a community shed – which includes the dominant purpose and membership requirements
  • have an active ABN
  • be located in Australia
  • be registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)
  • have a DGR winding up and revocation clause.

Before applying it is important you make sure your governing documents reflect how your shed meets the DGR characteristics and include a DGR wind up and revocation clause.
