Baxter’s Rural Centre 100th Anniversary

On the 29th March 2019, Baxter’s Rural Centre celebrated 100 years in business. Based in Cunderdin located in the WA wheatbelt, 153km east of Perth, Baxter’s Rural Centre has thrived through the hard work and dedication of 4 generations of the Baxter family.

Russell Baxter is the current dealer principal who started in 1983 and it was his great-grandfather and grandfather who began the business operating out of a shearing shed in 1919 when horses were still the main form of transport and farm work. Robert and Bill brought tractors out to the wheatbelt and revolutionised farming in the area.

In 1970 Bill’s son Ken took over the reins and grew the business to the surrounding areas of Cunderdin contributing to both the local community and economy. Baxter’s are one of the largest employers in Cunderdin and have always been avid sponsors of the community in sports, school, club and community events including the football club where Ken played 198 games and Russell is now on the committee.

The dealership employs 8 staff in the workshop and 4 in administration with a focus on customer service values and strong product knowledge and comradery.  The team at Baxter’s Rural Centre remains focused on the future and are excited with the possibilities that new technology will offer over the next 100 years.

The value of businesses like Baxter’s in rural WA is enormous and goes far beyond selling tractors, extending to community spirit and local support in our farming sectors. At Thornton’s we are proud to have worked with Baxter’s for over 20 years and look forward to many more.
